Yummy Bananas!!

Today after feeding Evan his lunchtime rice cereal, we tried something new. I gave him a small piece of banana in baby safe feeder. On previous occasions I had let Evan lick my fingers after I ate a banana and had a little left on my finger. He liked it then and even more today! Check out video #1 and video #2.

Hmm...what's this new thing?
Figuring out how it works

Got it! Yummy!
Look, Mom! No hands!

End of Summer

It has been a pretty low key week since we returned from Myrtle Beach. We have been spending time at home, getting a few things done and enjoying the last few days of summer.
Evan has his 4 month visit to the pediatrician (a little late seeing as he is 4 ½ months). He continues to be a growing boy. He is 18 lbs and 9 ounces (93rd percentile), 27.5 inches long (98th percentile) and has a 17.5 in head circumference (91st percentile). The doctor continues to be thrilled by his growth and progress. Evan had his second round of shots and while he had the slightest fever you would never have known it from his demeanor. He was just as happy as ever!

We also visited two more (our final two) daycare facilities this past week and have narrowed down our choices to either of the first two that we visited. Funny how we ended up liking those two the best…just like we did when we were planning our wedding. So now we will have to see who has openings for January.

Yesterday we went to an engagement party for Mike and Jill. It was a great party as it always is at the Pullano’s and it was great for the Kavanagh side of the family to finally meet Evan. Unfortunately we don’t have any photos of the day. I guess there was just too much going on…at least 50 people and that’s not even counting all the little kids. It was a typical Kavanagh gathering…lots of fun and great food with wonderful people! Congrats, Mike and Jill! Can’t wait until the wedding!!

Rice Cereal, Take Two!

We first gave Evan rice cereal on September 4th. We sat him in his Bumbo and while it went pretty well considering it was the first time he was eating anything other than formula from a bottle, it was still challenging. Evan was mesmerized with his new, brightly colored, oversized, washable bib and so he kept his head down to look at it. The Bumbo didn’t help either because while it does allow him to sit upright, it also seemed to cause Evan to lean forward a bit too much. But we kept at it for a few days and then went on vacation where we had no easy way to prop him up to feed him so we didn’t! What horrible parents we are, right? Give Evan food and then take it away from him…how cruel!! He didn’t seem to miss it.

However, now that we are home and a few weeks have passed, we decided to give it another go. Using the high chair…brilliant!! This worked out much better and Evan is a much more eager eater now than he was a few weeks ago. I have noticed him paying more attention to what we eat and he loves his cereal. Won’t be long before we are on to bigger and better foods!! Here is a video to view as well.

Do you like my new chair?
Yeah, this works better!

Three Little Boys (And Their Parents) Go To Myrtle Beach

“We’re gonna get going, where’re we going, what’re we gonna do?” That was how we started out what will hopefully be the first of many trips to Myrtle Beach that we take as a family. “We’re on our way to somewhere, the three of us and you” (Uncle Dan, Aunt Karin, Danny and Sean). When I was growing up, before we took any vacation, my dad would always sing that song (Cuanta le gusta by the Andrews Sisters) and so we continued the tradition and sang it before hitting the road on Friday night.
But I sleep on my belly...how will I sleep in the car?
What do you mean 17 hours in the car?

This trip came about because Dan and Karin were going to take their boys on vacation to Myrtle Beach and asked us if we wanted to go with them. We normally wouldn’t have been able to take a trip in the middle of September and so we decided to take advantage of my extended leave and go with them. So on Friday, September 10th at 9 pm, the seven of us piled into their jam-packed mini-van and began the 17 hours trek to Myrtle Beach. We decided to leave late at night in hopes that the boys would sleep most of the way and that we could keep the number of stops to a minimum. All in all it worked out pretty well. Sean was a little unhappy at times because he is used to sleeping on his belly; it took Danny a little while to get comfortable in his seat; and Evan would wake up from time to time wondering what was going on. But considering we were traveling with a three year old and two infants, the drive down was amazingly smooth.

While in Myrtle Beach, our days consisted of lots of low-key relaxation…something we were all perfectly happy with! The typical day was to lay-low in the beachfront condo in the morning while we had breakfast, took turns running and feeding the babies and being entertained by chef/baker Danny. The little ones would nap and then we would head to the pool, the beach or the grassy area in between the pool and the beach. We would spend much of the afternoon swimming, catching rays, building sand castles and really just enjoying each others company. In the late afternoon or early evening, we would head back to the condo and prepare for the evening. Some nights we all went to dinner together, one night Bruce and I had date night, one night Dan and Karin had date night, and some nights we didn’t go out at all. Here are some highlights from each day.

• Saturday, September 18th & Sunday, September 19th – We packed up, cleaned up, loaded up and got on the road after stopping for breakfast. We quickly learned how smart it was to drive through the night on the way down as it was slow going during the day. After a few stops and 9 hours of driving the little ones were asleep and we cruised home and arrived at 75 Farnum at 4:20 Sunday morning.
That was a funny joke, Dad!
Ready for the ride home
Thanks for a fun vacation, Mom and Dad! Love you!

What a great trip!! We made so many memories and had so many laughs! It was wonderful to see the boys together and we hope that this was the first of many trips we will take together!!
